The annual “Life After College” conference will provide Georgia Southern students with some helpful tips to jump start their careers.

“Life After College” is sponsored by Career Services and the Campus Life Enrichment Committee.

It will be Wednesday, Feb. 10 in the Russell Union. Students need to register in advance to attend the conference.

The deadline to register is tomorrow. Students can register online at students.georgiasouthern.edu/career and click on the “Life After College” button.

The event will take place from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. to ensure that every student will have an opportunity to attend.

This is an event that will help soon-to-be graduates prepare for the next step in their life, whether it be graduate school or stepping out into the work force.

“The preparation process for potential employment is one of the first critical steps in building individual confidence,” said Michael Washington, a session speaker from Wal-Mart.

Breakout sessions will cover topics that include interviewing skills, resume writing, graduate school planning, and professionalism in the workplace.

The sessions will be led by recruiters brought in from companies such as Target, Enterprise Rent-A-Car, Wal-Mart and GEICO, as well as campus departments.

Each session offers tips and tools to help students better themselves and their future career.

“We know that students have class,” said Amy Rowell, assistant director of Career Services, “so the sessions are scheduled so that students can still attend.”

Students will also have a chance to win cash prizes of up to $200.

For every breakout session a student attends, they will receive a ticket that will be placed in a drawing that will take place at the end of the conference.

The more sessions a student attends the better chance they will have of winning.

The keynote speaker is Martin Yate, a New York Times Best Selling author of the “Knock ‘Em Dead” books and has been a speaker before at GSU.

Yate will be speaking in the Nessmith-Lane Assembly Hall from 3:30 p.m.-7 p.m.

Washington said that with the help of Yate’s books he is able to “instruct both sides of the interview and career planning table.”

Yate will lead a presentation on successful job search strategies.
