February means it’s time for the annual clash of the two NFL powerhouses that have outdueled and outlasted competition over the course of their 16-week regular season and playoff games.
On Sunday, the culmination of the teams’ effort will grant them a place on the largest stage sports has to offer, and football fans will celebrate.
Eagle Entertainment will host its annual Super Bowl party Sunday beginning at 6 p.m. in the Russell Union Ballroom.
For Georgia Southern students not in the market to buy $500 tickets or travel over 500 miles south to Miami, the free event offers a welcome consolation.
“The party is an opportunity for students to come together and watch the Super Bowl with hundreds of their best friends, on a big screen,” said James Kicklighter, public relations coordinator for Eagle Entertainment. “It’s arguably the biggest screen in town.”
Doors to the event, which is scheduled to end along with the game, will be open to everyone – Colts fans, Saints fans and those affiliated with neither party.
Hot wings, chips, drinks and other foods traditionally tied to the game will be available throughout the evening.
“This year, we are hoping to expand it with more food so students will have an experience to remember,” said Kicklighter.
“I’m excited about it,” said Nick Reynolds, a sophomore construction major. “I really don’t mind who wins, I just want to hang out and eat some free food.”
Eagle IDs will not be required, and the event is open to the public. The evening is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. and end at 11 p.m. or upon the game’s conclusion.
