The second eagle statue was unveiled last night at 5 p.m. in front of the Foy Building, home to Georgia Southern University’s College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences, as a part of the Eagle Nation on Parade campaign.

Eagle Nation on Parade is sponsored by the College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences and the Betty Foy Sanders Department of Art, according to the Eagle Nation on Parade website.

Rose Mae Bogan Millikan, former mathematics professor and GSU alumnus who also donated the bronze eagle that is found in front of the Performing Arts Center, commissioned the statue named “GSU’s Victory Eagle.”

“It is absolutely beautiful and we are absolutely thrilled that Mrs. Milliken had it placed in front of the Foy Building. It is a high traffic area and many students will be able to see it,” Dean of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences Mike Smith said.

Graduate student Kristina B. Hall painted the red, white and blue statue. She was handpicked by Mrs. Milliken to work on the statue.

“I was very thrilled with what it looked like. I really like how it turned out. We worked really hard on it,” Milliken said.

Sue Bunning, development officer of Georgia Southern University, said, “We are just very grateful Rose Mae commissioned this eagle. It is inspiring and will be, hopefully, for many future generations to come.”
