Eagle Entertainment brings silver screen to GSU PDF Print E-mail

Relaxation, fun and enjoyment is what Friday nights on the campus of Georgia Southern University are like as students line up each week to unwind and watch a new movie, courtesy of Eagle Entertainment.

Since the fall of 2009, Eagle Entertainment has sought to provide students with the newest movies that aren’t available to the general public yet.

“We work with Swank Motion Pictures, Inc. They are a company that works with many of the major movie studios as their exclusive licensing and distribution partner. This allows non-theater markets, such as universities like GSU, to purchase the rights to show the movies on campus,” Kayla Tokars, a junior public relations major and current president of Eagle Entertainment, said.

The Eagle Entertainment board plays a role in acquiring the movies for Eagle Cinema night. The program board is made up of students, so the movies are guaranteed to be what other GSU students want to see.

“It is a group effort. We present a list of upcoming movies to our entire program board during our weekly meetings. They then vote on which movies they believe the students would want to see each month,” Tokars said.

In order for students to watch the movies Eagle Entertainment provides they to bring their Eagle ID.

To ensure that students are able to catch one of the movie viewings on Fridays, the movies are shown at both 7 p.m. and 9 p.m.
Concessions, such as popcorn, candy and drinks are available as well for just $1.

Due to the array of movies shown throughout the years, the Eagle Cinema crew’s event has become popular in the eyes of GSU students.

“Our Movie Series has consistently been one of our most successful events. On average, attendance has been roughly 500 students per night, but depending on the popularity of the movie, it can reach 800 people in one night,” Tokars said.

Eagle Entertainment is continuing to expand and grow in order to bring enjoyment to students around campus for years to come.

“As always, one of our main objectives is to continue to provide top quality, engaging activities for students,” Tokars said. “We are also in the process of merging with Traditions Council to become one central programming group on campus. Seeing that dynamic filter through to our events will be fun in the coming months.”
